Adavntages of Underfloor Heating

Advantages of Underfloor Heating

Underfloor heating is a cost-effective and sustainable way to heat your home, and has many advantages over other conventional heating systems, such as radiators. This works by circulating warm water (around 25o ) through pipes under your floor, which then heats your room.

In this article, we will discuss the main advantages to underfloor heating, and what it can bring to your home.

Cost Effective & Energy Efficient

When installed within a well-insulated home, underfloor heating is cost effective, and cheap to run. It works by gently heating the room from the ground up, whereas with radiators, you need to rely on the air circulation to heat your home. Due to its large surface area, it can heat a house at a much lower temperature, (around 25o compared to 65-70o  for a radiator) and will use around 15-40% less energy than a traditional radiator. Although underfloor heating might be on the more expensive side to install, it will provide substantial cost savings in the long term.

Easy to Run

One main benefit to underfloor heating is that once it has been installed, it requires almost no maintenance whatsoever to run, compared to traditional radiators, where you can experience overheating, leaking, and dealing with cold patches. However, especially with water based systems, you should have occasional maintenance tests, to make sure everything is working correctly.

More Space in Your Home

Installing an underfloor heating system in your home will free up wall space, so you can have the freedom of decorating your walls without having to plan around any radiators you may have.

Underfloor heating systems are ideal for those who don’t like the look of radiators, people who don’t want radiators to clog up their walls, or because it doesn’t fit in with the aesthetic of their house. Having underfloor heating completely eliminates any of these problems, as it is all hidden under your floor, apart from your home being nice and warm, you would never know it’s there!

Can Prevent Health Problems

Radiators are a main cause of circulating dust around the home, the convection currents circulate warm air around the room, which then sends dust into the atmosphere, which can worsen asthma symptoms and allergies. If you suffer from asthma or allergies, underfloor heating is the way to go, as it doesn’t circulate dust particles. It also helps to keep the moisture content levels low, which reduces the amount of dust in the air.

More Comfortable

Having underfloor heating can make your home feel more comfortable and cosier. You can walk around with bare feet and feel the benefits of the warm floor. The room will also have a constant temperature throughout the whole room, that is difficult to achieve with a radiator. Underfloor heating installed in bathrooms can make a difference when getting out the bath or shower, as nobody likes stepping onto a cold floor!
